Considering the success of The League and his soon-to-be-over own series, we imagine we’ll soon see much more of Nick Kroll on our screens. Ahead of the Vacation reboot of sorts this fall, he’ll take the lead in Adult Beginners, a comedy which premiered at last fall’s Toronto International Film Festival and will be released next month. Following Kroll as a down-and-out loner, he reconnects with his estranged sister (Rose Byrne), married to Bobby Cannavale‘s character, and learns to “discover” himself.

We said in our review, “So with the obvious heart and ample supply of laughs come authentic examples of being flawed and wanting more. No one is perfect, no one has all the answers, and no one is better than the next. A lot of forgiveness has to arrive for any of them to still be talking to each other by the end and tough decisions must be made to willingly sacrifice hollow desires in order to attain the love of family. And despite it seeming familiar cinematically, Kroll and Byrne provide characterizations that are familiar to us. We get their struggles, their wanting to be someone else, and their strength to forgive. It may not seem much—and it may not completely forgive its shortcomings—but being able to say that is refreshing.”

Also starring Bobby Moynihan, Joel McHale, and Jason Mantzoukas, check out the entertaining trailer below for the Duplass brothers production, directed by Ross Katz.

A young, hipster entrepreneur (Nick Kroll) crashes and burns on the eve of his company’s big launch. With his entire life in disarray, he leaves Manhattan to move in with his estranged pregnant sister (Rose Byrne), brother-in-law (Bobby Cannavale) and three year-old nephew in the suburbs — only to become their manny. Faced with real responsibility, he may finally have to grow up — but not without some bad behavior first.

Adult Beginners hits VOD and theaters on April 24th.
