While we recently got this year’s Black List, featuring a round-up of Hollywood’s best unproduced screenplays, the script that led the pack in 2012 was the football drama Draft Day. In the past year, the film went into production with Ivan Reitman at the helm and Kevin Costner in the lead, and ahead of a spring release, the first trailer has arrived.

Originally centered on the Buffalo Bills, the proper incentives were made to Lionsgate for them to film in Cleveland, so now the story follows Costner as general manager of the Cleveland Browns, as he desperately seeks out a number one draft pic to rescue his problem riddled team. This first look sells passable entertainment, but we’ll have to see if the script is indeed worthy of praise come April. With a cast also including Frank Langella, Jennifer Garner, Denis Leary and Veep‘s Timothy Simmons, check out the trailer.

On the day of the NFL Draft, general manager Sonny Weaver (Costner) has the opportunity to save football in Cleveland when he trades for the number one pick. He must quickly decide what he’s willing to sacrifice in pursuit of perfection as the lines between his personal and professional life become blurred on a life-changing day for a few hundred young men with dreams of playing in the NFL.

Draft Day opens on April 11th.
