While many may recognize Matt Ross from his various roles in The Last Days of Disco, American Psycho, The Aviator, or in regular stints on Big Love and American Horror Story, the actor jumped behind the camera for his feature directorial debut earlier this year at Sundance — and delivered one of our favorite films from the festival.

28 Hotel Rooms is now set for a release this month and the theatrical trailer has arrived, which actually takes a quote from our review. Capturing a pair, played by Away We Go and Vicky Cristina Barcelona‘s Chris Messina and Homeland‘s Marin Ireland, the film follows 28 separate nights in 28 different hotel rooms, resulting in what we called “a near-perfect blend of comedy and drama.” Check out the trailer below.

Synopsis:

While traveling for work in a city far from their homes, a novelist and a corporate accountant find themselves in bed together. Although she’s married, and he’s seeing someone, their intense attraction turns a one-night stand into an unexpected relationship and a respite from the obligations of daily life. Through a series of moments–some profound, some silly, some intensely intimate–we see a portrait of an evolving relationship that could become the most significant one of their lives. Chris Messina and Marin Ireland turn in outstanding performances. Each exhibits a vulnerability and emotional honesty that allows the audience to connect intensely with the two characters and every moment they share. 28 HOTEL ROOMS is director/screenwriter Matt Ross’s first feature, and it is a candid, exquisitely constructed mosaic. The film adeptly illustrates how seemingly inconsequential moments and actions can often mean more than we suspect.

28 Hotel Rooms hits VOD on October 9th and then arrives in theaters on November 16th.
