Synopsis:

From the Desk of Terrence Malick….

We trace the evolution of an eleven-year-old boy in the Midwest, JACK, one of three brothers. At first all seems marvelous to the child. He sees as his mother does with the eyes of his soul. She represents the way of love and mercy, where the father tries to teach his son the world’s way of putting oneself first. Each parent contends for his allegiance, and Jack must reconcile their claims. The picture darkens as he has his first glimpses of sickness, suffering and death. The world, once a thing of glory, becomes a labyrinth.

From this story is that of adult Jack, a lost soul in a modern world, seeking to discover amid the changing scenes of time that which does not change: the eternal scheme of which we are a part. When he sees all that has gone into our world’s preparation, each thing appears a miracle—precious, incomparable. Jack, with his new understanding, is able to forgive his father and take his first steps on the path of life.

The story ends in hope, acknowledging the beauty and joy in all things, in the everyday and above all in the family—our first school—the only place that most of us learn the truth about the world and ourselves, or discover life’s single most important lesson, of unselfish love.

As for his currently shooting film, we have seen set photos, we have heard of casting additions, and we know where it’s filming. But that doesn’t mean we know anything truly concrete about the movie that Terrence Malick‘s next. Other than the fact that it’s been described as a “romantic drama” and that two of the characters are priests, a vast majority of the details have been kept in the dark. But if a page discovered by ThePlaylist is to be believed, then we may at least know the movie’s title.

And what is that title? Well, according to the French entertainment site Fluctuat, it’s The Burial. What could this title mean? Well, obviously it indicates that something or someone has died. What this thing is is anybody’s guess, as I certainly have no idea. But people should also consider the possibility that it’s an old title (as Christian Bale is still listed in the cast), or that it’s a decoy, as has been used on many major productions in the past.

This being the name of his currently in production film and the title for his next released movie being The Tree of Life could indicate to me that perhaps the two movies are thematically related, as both (at least partially and seemingly) deal with life in modern times, something that is a first for him. I wouldn’t be entirely surprised to find out that the reason the notoriously slow filmmaker began working on a new project so quickly is because the two deal with similar themes and could act as companion pieces to each other. But then again, I could just as easily be wrong. Do you have any idea if this could be real, and if so, what it may mean?

Do you think this is the actual title? What could the significance of it be? Do you like the Tree of Life poster?
