Coming off of Carnage, director Roman Polanski will be playing in the same territory for his next film, Venus in Fur. Once again taking a property from the stage to the screen, and keeping things confined to one room, this time it is an adaptation of David Ives‘ Tony-winning play Venus in Fur. Shot entirely in French, the erotic black comedy is playing in competition at Cannes and we’ve got our first official look from the set.
Taking over the roles of Hugh Dancy and Nina Arianda (who won a Tony for best actress), Polanski brought on Emmanuelle Seigner (who worked with Polanski on Frantic and Bitter Moon and is married to the director) and fellow Diving Bell and the Butterfly star Mathieu Amalric. The somewhat meta film, described as an erotic game of cat and mouse, follows a young actress who is determined to book the lead role in new play.
