Update: A higher-quality, green-band version is now live.

“Holy Sh*t.”That’s what I said to myself for about one minute and thirty nine seconds straight as the teaser trailer for David Fincher‘s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo played before my eyes (via /Film). Set to a Trent Reznor and Karen O cover of Led Zeppelin‘s “Immigrant Song,” it’s mostly composed of quick shots that generally last no longer than three seconds. And all of those shots are amazing.

Based on the internationally best-selling novel by Stieg Larsson, the first in his Millennium Trilogy, it was previously adapted into a successful trilogy of films in the author’s home land of Sweden. Having seen the first movie and not being particularly fond of it, I have to admit that I was kind of miffed that Fincher would take his time to direct a second adaptation of this book.

Well, any animosity just dissipated, as this thing looks killer (no pun intended), and it’s gone right to the top of my most anticipated list for this year. The cinematography by Jeff Cronenweth seems to capture the cold, harsh atmosphere of Sweden, while Rooney Mara looks pretty intimidating as Lisbeth Salander. The other quick flashes of actors – such as Daniel Craig and Christopher Plummer – don’t tell too much, but they’ve done enough in their careers to give the utmost sense of confidence. But, really, the most important thing: You can just tell that Fincher has knocked this whole thing out of the park. And then there’s that tagline. I love this preview to death.

Anyway, why am I still blathering? Watch it right now!

Starring Rooney Mara, Daniel Craig, Christopher Plummer, Stellan Skarsgard and Robin Wright, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo opens on December 21st.

What do you think of this teaser? Does it make you excited for the movie?
