Woody Allen might have Midnight in Paris opening Cannes in May, but he’s already gearing up for his Rome-set film, which has just landed its first cast member. It turns out that it’s someone he’s worked with before: Penelope Cruz, who was under his directorial eye in 2008’s Vicky Cristina Barcelona.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Cruz gave a brief quote on the project, saying:
“I know what I’m doing next, but the thing is that I have to ask the director what I can say and what I cannot say. Because he’s very secretive. It’s…it’s a movie with Woody Allen. But I really cannot say anything about the story or the characters.”
Anybody who knows anything about Allen is aware that he’s keen on bringing back actors, so it’s not much of surprise to see that the two will be working together again. Not much else is known about the film at this point, but shooting should begin soon, and more should come out within the next few months. I’m glad that we haven’t seen the last of these two as director and star, so the film already has something going in its favor.
Meanwhile, Midnight in Paris will be the opening night film at Cannes on May 11th and Cruz has Pirates 4 coming May 20th, so be sure to check back here for more updates on both when they come in.
Are you happy to see that Cruz and Allen will be working together again? Were you a fan of their past collaboration?
