Watch: First ‘Man of Steel’ TV Spot & Debut Images From Zack Snyder-Produced ‘300’ Spin-Off

Written by on April 9, 2013

When a director delivers a misfire like Sucker Punch, one would think it would be a certain deathblow, but somehow Hollywood has collectively forgotten Zack Snyder‘s career nadir and 2013 marks his return in a major way. Not only is he helming what is arguably the biggest film of the summer season, but the franchise that catapulted him into the public consciousness is continuing with his guidance, and today we’ve got new materials from both.

Warner Bros. has debuted the first TV spot for his Superman film, Man of Steel, which more or less takes footage from the previous trailer, while adding a few new bits. Led by Henry Cavill, a new trailer is expected this month, so stay tuned. We’ve also got the first look at Smart People director Noam Murro‘s spin-off to 300, produced by Snyder and titled 300: Rise of an Empire, which sees Sullivan Stapleton as Greek general Themistokles (seen below).

The “very different” story takes place simultaneously to the 2006 hit, and is said to have much different choreography as well. USA Today has more details on the film, including our characters heading to the sea and Eva Green as Artemesia, who plays “the vengeful commander of the Persian navy.” Check out quote from Murro below, along with the stills and the spot.

[The film] happens over time in many different locations. The opportunities for the six distinct battles are even greater with different locations and tactics… The few against the many is still here. It’s hundreds vs. hundreds of thousands. It’s about taking on the mightiest power of all with wisdom and tactics.

Man of Steel lands on June 14th, while 300: Rise of An Empire slides into theaters on August 2nd.
