Watch Bennett Miller and Cast Discuss ‘Foxcatcher’ For Over 3 Hours as New Trailer Arrives

Written by on October 14, 2014

“There is an unspoken emptiness that hangs boldly over Foxcatcher, which is sure to be one of the subtly darkest films made by a major Hollywood studio this year. The film’s Pennsylvania ranch initially appears like a gorgeous emblem of American society, sparkling with the country’s ideological symbols of majestic plains, galloping horses, and sizable, but not elegant, mansions. But there also seems to be a totalitarianism hanging over these as well, a kind that makes one second guess the images presented onscreen,” we said in our Cannes review. “The dread that sits over Bennett Miller’s superbly directed, bleakly dystopic view of American life is palatable in every moment without ever feeling overwhelming, simply sitting in the empty spaces that separate the physical bodies.”

Following the premiere at Cannes, Miller and cast, including Steve Carell, Channing Tatum, Vanessa Redgrave, Mark Ruffalo, and Sienna Miller, have traveled to both TIFF and NYFF ahead of a release in exactly a month. During the tour, they’ve extensively discussed the process of adapting the true story in a number of talks. Across the conversations, Miller discusses the dark comedic aspects of the project, working with cinematographer Greig Fraser (Killing Them Softly, Zero Dark Thirty), and not providing conclusions by going after “low-hanging fruit.” Meanwhile the cast talks meeting their real-life counterparts, preparation, the somber vibe on set, and much more. Check out the conversations below as well as a new full-length trailer and for even more, watch the Cannes Film Festival press conference.
