Wachowskis Hint at Ambitious Visual Plan for ‘Jupiter Ascending’

Written by on October 10, 2012

Any effort from Andy and Lana Wachowski — or, as they’re starting to be known, Wachowski Starship — is worth paying attention to — even if the final result isn’t always what you’d want. We’d, normally, be keeping a closer eye on Jupiter Ascending, a sci-fi epic some are already calling the new Matrix — morsels of story-related information aren’t raising many similarities, by the way — but they and Tom Tykwer happen to have something coming in just over two weeks. You can only keep track of so many things at once, and Cloud Atlas appears to be several things as is.

All the requisite publicity notwithstanding, Jupiter Ascending is still in a deep state of pre-production. At the end of HitFix‘s (from what I’ve read, excellent) interview with the Wachowskis and Tykwer, there’s an anecdote wherein the siblings let slip that they’ve devised “a big visual idea” for their new film. It was, needless to say, not divulged, though we can expect something “like the evolutionary jump from bullet-time”; the catch is that it’ll cost some money, take some time, and “might not be possible.”

But consider me intrigued! At a distance, however; Jupiter won’t actually ascend (not sorry) for another couple of years, what with shooting not scheduled to kick off until February. Until then, we’ll have to take crumbs of information from the Wachowskis, Channing Tatum, and Mila Kunis for whatever they might amount to. My guess would be “not much.”

As small as it may be, does this hint of something big in Jupiter Ascending pique your curiosity?
