While his initial works displayed a keen sense of imagination, there’s no denying Tim Burton is in a bit of a rut. Alice in Wonderland marked his most financially successful film, yet it was anything but on the creative side. Then his latest live-action work — another reboot, this time of Dark Shadows — barely even registered when it came out last summer. Things are looking up for his first project that doesn’t come from a major studio, the Christoph Waltz and Amy Adams-led Big Eyes, but now the filmmaker will be going back to the well again — specifically, his own.

After some murmurs this week, Variety have confirmed that Burton is actually in talks with WB for a sequel to his 1988 hit Beetlejuice, along with star Michael Keaton. Penned by Seth Grahame-Smith (Dark Shadows, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter), who became attached over two years ago, there’s no word yet on the story this time around, only that’ll pick up in real-time, taking place around 26 years after the original. Burton still has to finish up Big Eyes and he may shoot Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children before this next Beetlejuice, so don’t expect it until 2015/2016 at the earliest.

Do you think Burton and Keaton returning to Beetlejuice is a wise move?
