Horror seems to suit Thomas Jane, and based on his recent projects, the actor is all too willing to add more creepy titles to his resume. The Dreamcatcher star will soon battle a grizzly bear in director David Hackl’s Red Machine, a man-vs.-nature film he boarded last year that’s scheduled to release sometime this summer. Before that hits theaters, however, Jane and Red Machine’s screenwriter, Jack Reher, are embarking on another chiller.

According to Bloody Disgusting, Jane will direct and star in The Wet House, an “elevated genre supernatural thriller” based on a script by Reher. The concept is dually inspired by the obscure Charles Dickens ghost story, The Signal-Man, and the titular setting – as Reher explains, wet houses are facilities where substance abusers go when they “give up on life and their addictions.” Sounds like a real downer, but the world could use more substantial horror films to balance out all the found footage and gore cluttering the theaters. For more perspective, see the plot details below:

A doctor treats a patient that checks in there after a horrific car accident and meets another resident that predicts tragic things that haven’t happened yet.. Slowly the doctor loses grip on his sanity in the Wet House and becomes haunted by something sinister.

In terms of tone, the film is described as a mix of Jacob’s Ladder, Poltergeist, and Secret Window, which suggests a more stylish, mind-bending tale. Hopefully, it can also achieve the same level of quality, at least when it comes to the first two selections.

Do you think The Wet House sounds scary or depressing?
