Despite a formidable opponent opening weekend with Superman himself, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg‘s directorial debut has gone on to double its production budget, proving to be a success for Sony Pictures. While the Superbad and Pineapple Express duo have many other projects lined up (with their next confirmed gig being the James Franco-led The Interview), they may be interested in returning to the world of This is the End.

In a recent interview with Dread Central, Goldberg was optimistic about a follow-up, saying “If you ask me, I’d say there’s a good chance of sequel. If you ask Seth, he’d say no. So, we’ll see. We lucked out that [the cast] were all available [at the time].” While he’s not sure if could wrangle the ensemble together he said ideas have already been forming. “We actually talked about doing a sequel where it starts at the premiere of This Is the End,” Goldberg says, getting into even more meta territory.

Spoilers ahead, but the co-director says, “Seth’s a cokehead in this version, Michael Cera is a calm dude with a boyfriend, Rihanna and The Backstreet Boys are back.” They even floated around the idea for another version where there’s “heaven and hell” and “a garden of Eden version where Danny [McBride] is Adam.” While I would certainly enjoy seeing the group together, part of the fun of the film was the somewhat realistic depiction of a biblical apocalypse and a finite conclusion. Taking it to another meta-level, at least with the former idea, may hinder some of the fun. Then again, we’re a ways off and I trust this duo to create laughs regardless, so I look forward to see if anything comes of it.

Would you want to see either of these ideas in a This is the End sequel?
