We’re nearly two months past Sundance Film Festival, but a handful of our favorites are still finding acquisition. First up, easily one of the best from Park City, the A.J. Edwards-directed, Terrence Malick-produced The Better Angels has been picked up by Amplify. The company will give the film, which follows the early life of Abraham Lincoln, a theatrical release this fall followed by a VOD and home release early next year. Next up, one of the best black comedies I’ve seen in years (full review), Marjane Satrapi’s The Voices, has been picked up by Lionsgate for distribution. Led by Ryan Reynolds, there’s no specific date set yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they hold it until next spring as they figure out the tough sell. Adam Wingard‘s thriller The Guest, another one of our favorites from Sundance (review here), has been picked up by Picturehouse for a release this fall.
Lastly, two films that already got distribution have zeroed in on their specific release windows. First up, the Michael Fassbender-led offf-beat rock comedy Frank (review & trailer) will be released this summer in the United States by Magnolia Pictures — no exact date yet, but stay tuned. Meanwhile, The Skeleton Twins, which features Kristin Wiig and Bill Hader‘s finest performances yet (full review), will be released this September by Roadside Attractions.
