Not long before Channing Tatum drew notice for his role in the indie biopic A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, he was a performer of a different sort. He was a stripper. And now, he’s getting a biopic of his own with Steven Soderbergh’s Magic Mike. Scripted by Reid Carolin, who was an associate producer on the Tatum drama Stop Loss, Magic Mike will star Tatum as Mike Martingano, a successful stripper who takes on a young and green protégé (Alex Pettyfer) and attempts to school him in the ways of the club and romancing the clientele.

Matthew McConaughey (in some truly inspired casting) has been brought on board to play Dallas, a former dancer-turned-strip club owner, while True Blood hunk Joe Manganiello has joined the cast as “Big Dick Richie,” who I’m assuming is aptly named on more than one front. Handsome man and White Collar star Matt Bomer has also signed on. Though it’s unannounced in what capacity, it’s seems likely he too will be a stripper.

So, who is the next actor set to join this panoply of pretty boys and muscular men sure to make female audiences all a titter? Rotund stand-up Gabriel Iglesias obviously! Thankfully, Iglesias (who insists I’m Not Fat…I’m Fluffy) will be not be playing a stripper, but rather the comic-relief in form of a wise-cracking DJ. According to THR, his character will be “part of the gang.”

But despite it’s mainly male cast Magic Mike will not be a total sausage-fest as glamor girl Cody Thorn (Rescue Me) playing Paige, sister to Pettyfer’s “The Kid” and love interest to Tatum’s Mike. So basically, it sounds like things will get hot.

Magic Mike is set to hit theaters in 2012.
