After spending much of the last year working on his directorial debut Lost River (our Cannes review), it looks like Ryan Gosling is getting back in the business of acting again. In his first potential project since Terrence Malick‘s drama (which we’re still waiting on, by the way), The Wrap reports he’s circling a role in Shane Black‘s return to noir, The Nice Guys.

Black, who is coming off his mega-success of Iron Man 3thankfully looks to be returning to a world more akin to his excellent Kiss Kiss Bang Bang with the project. Also courting Russell Crowe, the script by Black and Anthony Bagarozzi is set in LA in 1970’s and follows tough guy Jackson Healy and private detective Holland March who are working on a case involving the suicide of a porn star.

Things get tricky when “the dead girl’s aunt is convinced she saw her niece alive and well after the highly publicized incident. March needs money, takes the case, and within days, it’s blossomed into a far-reaching murder conspiracy, bizarrely rooted in smog and the U.S. auto industry.” We’d certainly love to see this one come to fruition, so let’s hope the movie gods are on our side.

tom-hiddlestonIn other casting news, Tom Hiddleston is heading to biopic territory, specifically of the country variety. Deadline reports he’s lining up a role as Hank Williams in the feature I Saw the Light, which will come from director Marc Abraham (Flash of Genius). Based on Colin Escott‘s biography, it’ll follow the short life of the musician, who sadly died of heart failure at the young age of 29. Production kicks off in October, featuring Hiddleston belting out the famous tunes himself, and meanwhile one can find him in the stellar Only Lovers Left Alive.

Are you looking forward to the above projects?
