Rosamund Pike and Sam Neill Take ‘Long Way Down’; Jerry Ferrara In ‘Last Vegas’

Written by on September 17, 2012

Just as production gets underway, and with its primary lineup set into place, Long Way Down is bringing two more into the fray. According to Variety, director Pascal Chaumeil and his film have been granted the strong, supporting input of Rosamund Pike (The World’s End, Wrath of the Titans) and Sam Neill (no introduction necessary).

Pierce Brosnan, Aaron Paul, Toni Collette, and Imogen Poots are the quartet who comprise Long Way Down‘s ensemble, they being four depressed sorts who plan to jump off the same roof on one New Year’s Eve. After meeting by what’s either coincidence or fate — I’m pretty sure it’s not a Heaven’s Gate-style cult — the newsman, pizza boy, distressed mother, and troubled teen ponder what’s led them to this point. What two fine actors like Pike and Neill can do within that frame is a bit hard to determine, but I’m sure they’ll be great.

Some sillier material is also filling itself out, with THR having learned that Jerry Ferrara (Entourage, Think Like a Man) is being put alongside the elderly players of Jon Turteltaub‘s Last Vegas, a signing which makes this 32-year-old the youngest player of its cast.

The main stars here are Michael Douglas, Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman, and Kevin Kline, while Ferrara will be seen as “a young punk” who causes trouble for the group. Look out! Turtle’s on the loose.

Last Vegas centers on those four, who take one of their own to Las Vegas before he gets married — a move which creates some trouble when the groom-to-be (Douglas) and De Niro‘s character fall in love with a woman in town (Mary Steenburgen). And, then, Ferrara has to come and complicate things even further.

The film is scheduled to open on December 20th, 2013.

How about these choices? Good, bad, or inconsequential?
