It seems that Renee Zellweger isn’t just sitting around waiting for another Bridget Jones to head into production, as we’ve got news she will be stepping behind the camera herself. Variety has the report on her directorial debut, which features quite an odd match-up.

Jackass star Johnny Knoxville is set to star alongside Zellweger in her indie comedy titled 4 1/2 MinutesAnthony Tambakis, who wrote Warrior and also worked with Zellweger on an upcoming Lifetime pilot, has scripted this one, which is based on stand-up comedian Dov Davidoff‘s life. Knoxville leads the film as  Jimmy Bennett, “a commitment-phobic, train-wreck of a comedian whose life is falling apart when he takes a job looking after the genius son of single mom P.J. Andersen,” played by Zellweger.

After the success of Louie and Sleepwalk Walk with Me, I’m enjoying this string of slightly biographical takes on the lives of comedians and here’s another one set in NYC. I’m curious as to why Davidoff didn’t just take the lead role, but I’m interested to see what style Zellweger will have. The film will be on the Toronto marketplace and begin production early next year. One can see an example of Davidoff’s comedy below.

Are you looking forward to Zellweger’s directorial debut?
