Posters For ‘Straw Dogs,’ ‘Underworld: Awakening,’ and More

Written by on August 21, 2011

The first poster for Rod Lurie‘s remake of Sam Peckinpah‘s classicm Straw Dogs, caused something of an uproar. Not only was it someone putting a new spin on a classic image, but it doesn’t even make sense when you think about it. Alexander Skarsgård is trapped inside James Marsden‘s burning eye? It was amended later on, but most didn’t notice by that point.

A few new ones have shown up at AwardsDaily; three show off the leads, and the other is somewhat similar to the first that was released, but it a) features Skarsgard, and b) isn’t nonsensical. But I’m still not that crazy about these, mostly because I’ve never understood the point of making character posters for movies that aren’t based on pre-existing properties. If you release material of this kind for something like The Dark Knight Rises, that’s cool; you’re showing characters that people have known for years — possibly decades — and it’s also something that most others can just recognize in the first place. When it comes to Straw Dogs, however, I don’t think that a lot of people have even seen the original. But if you want to see the remake, you can check it out when it opens on September 16th.

After that, we have a poster for Underworld: Awakening. This is just like the movie’s trailer: It’s fairly dark, with the rather big — and pretty — exception of Kate Beckinsale‘s face, and it looks no different than anything we’ve seen from this series thus far. I have to admit that these films hold no interest for me; the stories, actors, directors (sorry, Måns Mårlind and Björn Stein), and general content just leave me bored. But maybe you feel differently, and maybe its release date of January 20th, 2012 is of interest to you.

As a little added bonus, there are also posters for Abduction, We Need to Talk About Kevin, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, and Toast to check out:

Do you like any of these posters? Which movie are you the most excited for?
