For the most part, the music and film worlds have been closely intertwined and today we’ve got news on three very different documentaries surrounding very different artists. First up, let’s start with the most promising project, as reports have come in that Ridley Scott’s Scott Free company are launching a documentary surrounding The Boss himself, Bruce Springseen. Titled Springsteen & I, the project directed by Baillie Walsh will have some correlations with Scott’s Life in a Day, as users are tasked with creating their short films on what Springsteen means to them and how his music have affected their lives. The film is expected to get a worldwide release in 2013 and anyone can submit videos starting this week. Check out more details on the official site.
In other music documentary news, Georgia-based indie pop band Of Montreal have been working on a documentary since 2007 and have now launched a Kickstarter to finally complete the project by this March. Titled Song Dynasties, the project began around their hit album Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?, featuring concert footage directed by Compliance‘s Craig Zobel and has since been passed to Jason Miller. Lastly, Super Size Me‘s Morgan Spurlock has found his next documentary and its quite different than anything he’s previously been a part of. In a press release, Sony Pictures have revealed they’ve set to the helmer to direct a 3D concert documentary based on the London-based pop stars One Direction. With a release date of August 30th, 2013, there’s no telling exactly what the structure will be (I’d take a guess it won’t be far removed from the recent Justin Bieber and Katy Perry docs), but producer Simon Cowell said Spurlock will “give that access-all-areas, behind-the-scenes look into what it’s like to be One Direction today. What the band have achieved is incredible, they and their fans have made history around the world – this is for them.” Tweens, you better save up your allowance.
