After participating in Disney’s Oz the Great and Powerful earlier this year, the talented Michelle Williams is getting back into the business of joining films we can actually hold some anticipation for. Following an attachment last year, the actress has formally come aboard The Double Hour, an American remake of the 2009 Italian film La Doppia Ora.

According to a press release out of Cannes, Joel Edgerton (The Great Gatsby, Zero Dark Thirty) has joined the film as an ex-cop who hits things off with a chambermaid (Williams) at a speed dating event and go off on a romantic getaway. Unfortunately the getaway takes a dark turn when a mysterious gang ambushes them; a gang that may or may not have ties to the chambermaid in question. Directorial duties on The Double Hour are being handled by Joshua Marston, who also wrote the script (and is the man behind 2004′s Maria Full of Grace and last year’s The Forgiveness of Blood).

In less concrete news, the actress is being rumored for the female lead role in John Wells‘ drama Chef with Bradley Cooper. Not be confused with Jon Favreau‘s rival film of the same name, this one sees our Silver Linings Playbook lead as a Paris chef named Adam Jones,” who destroys his wunderkind status in a blaze of decadence and out of control behavior. He cleans up and returns to Paris sober, determined to redeem himself by spearheading a top restaurant that can gain three Michelin stars.”

According to Deadline, Williams, along with Marion Cotillard, are both being eyed for the co-lead role in the drama that also has Omar Sy attached. There’s also a bit of controversy regarding the Favreau project, as Sony Pictures (who originally owned Wells’ films before The Weinstein Company took it over) wants the producers behind the RDJ-led film to lose its title, going so far to send a cease and desist. Considering neither of these films have even gone to production yet, we expect everything to be ironed out by the time they hit theaters, which will likely be next year.

Have you seen The Double Hour? Would you like to see Williams take the Chef role?
