Mary-Louise Parker, James Woods, and Ving Rhames Leading ‘Jamesy Boy’; ‘In Your Eyes’ Adds One More

Written by on February 24, 2012

Seeing as he’s only making a directorial debut with Jamesy Boy, Trevor White can count himself as a very luck man. According to Deadline, Mary-Louise Parker, James Woods, and Ving Rhames have all signed for the indie drama, written by the director and Lane Shadgett.

With Boy, things are told from the perspective of a young man, James (Spencer Lofranco), who “goes from suburban street gangs to a maximum-security prison surrounded by hardened criminals,” but soon “fosters an unlikely friendship with a convicted murderer who ends up becoming his mentor and ultimately defines and changes the course of his life.” THR gives a little more insight in the casting realm, noting that Parker will play the boy’s mother; Rhames, his mentor; and Woods has the part of “an authority figure at a detention center.” (The description for a James Woods character if I’ve ever heard one.) Not a bad collection of players, and that doesn’t sound like the worst material for a compelling feature, either. Shooting will kick off on March 4th.

Further announcements have piled in from Deadline, who report that Steve Howey (Shameless, Something Borrowed) will appear in In Your Eyes, putting him in the company of Michael Stahl-David, Zoe Kazan, and Mark Feurstein. As we’ve told you, the Brin Hill-directed and Joss Whedon-scripted Eyes is the story of two young people (Stahl-David and Kazan) who form a telepathic bond between New Mexico and Connecticut. The Deadline story doesn’t inform us what kind of role Howey will take up, though I’ll take the early casting as a good sign for the guy.

Is the initial casting on Jamesy Boy promising? How about the newest actor to join Eyes?
