With While We’re Young now in theaters and Mistress America awaiting a release date, Noah Baumbach has crafted two of our favorite films of the year thus far. As we await to hear what the director will take on next, today brings a pair of extensive talks the helmer conducted at New York City’s Film Society of Lincoln Center.

The first occurred recently for the release Young, and he discusses what differentiates him from David Fincher, the death of film (and how he’d like to shoot on it one last time), how his latest film can be compared to a Michael Mann feature, and more. They’ve also dug up a conversation from 2010 between the director and Brian De Palma as they talk about how they met at Paul Schrader‘s 50th birthday party, how they don’t discuss movies critically, how they shoot sex scenes, mixing comedy and thriller elements, and much more.

Both chats are great and can be heard below (with one in a video version), along with Baumbach’s analysis of a scene from his latest film and the full soundtrack — featuring new songs from James Murphy.

While We’re Young is now in limited release and expands this weekend.
