Lesley Manville and Emilia Clarke Travel to ‘Spike Island’ With The Stone Roses

Written by on February 9, 2012

With the band gearing up for a brief reunion run this June, a couple of filmmakers have developed some newfound fixation with English rock band The Stone Roses. We told you about the most notable just a few months ago, that being This is England director Shane Meadows‘ rock concert/documentary endeavor — but that’s not all. A straight narrative, Spike Island, has been trying to get off the ground these past couple of years; what better time to announce its main cast than right now?

ScreenDaily (via ThePlaylist) informs us that Lesley Manville — who you may know for her work in various Mike Leigh films — has, along with Game of ThronesEmilia Clarke, signed on for the film, which has Mat Whitecross (Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll) attached to direct. Leading the cast is Elliott Tittensor; Jordon Murphy, Nico Marallegro, Oliver Heald, and Adam Long also star.

Right now, our main line of information is that Spike Island centers on “a group of 16-year-old bandmates traveling to the Roses’ seminal May 1990 gig.” Coming-of-age tale, then? I’d be up for that. Heck, throw in a rockin’ tune or two, and we could have a fun, nostalgic time at the cinema. (As, appropriately, the British would call it.)

Any interest in a Stone Roses film on your part? What does this cast do for you?
