More than a year after word of its development had leaked, things are becoming a bit more clear on Tarsem‘s The Panopticon. According to The Wrap, “negotiations are in a sensitive stage” with Keanu Reeves to lead a project that, as scripted by Craig Rosenberg (After the Sunset, The Uninvited), follows “a seemingly ordinary man who receives a mysterious package containing a pre-recorded message from himself, warning that the world is about to end and only he can save it. He must race against the clock to piece together the puzzle before time runs out for mankind.”

Good Universe and Andrew Lazar are supporting the project. There’s no word on when production might begin, but, seeing as it’s bested only be the in-post Selfless as the furthest-ahead title currently in Tarsem‘s repertoire, one might not be surprised if things commence soon.

clive-owen-picMeanwhile, Deadline tell us Nebraska scribe Bob Nelson has set a fine set of players for The Confirmation, his directorial debut. Clive Owen and Jaeden Lieberher (St. Vincent) will lead as a father-son pair reunited after a long separation, one which has created tensions between them. Although a broken-down truck, evicting landlord, and stolen toolbox have interfered even further, they decide to go searching for the tools “with help from an odd neighbor (Patton Oswalt).” Should we expect all this fun to go hand-in-hand with a few Midwestern characterizations?

A very fine ensemble — Maria Bello, Robert Forster, Stephen Tobolowsky, Matthew Modine, and Tim Blake Nelson — are just starting production. Great Point Media and Bungalow Media + Entertainment are behind The Confirmation.

Rosamund-Pike-Pictures-9Although her work in Gone Girl might make her immediately following casting as a loving wife just the slightest bit surprising, Rosamund Pike has been pegged to portray the female lead in The Mountain Between Us. (Don’t worry: Margot Robbie, though out of this job, will continue to work.) This long-gestating project, currently with Fox 2000, has passed hands from Gerardo Naranjo (Miss Bala) to Hany Abu-Assad (Omar, Paradise Now), who will adapt Charles Martin‘s romantic novel. Charlie Hunnam (Crimson Peak, Pacific Rim) will be seen opposite Pike. Scott Frank rewrote a J. Mills Goodloe-penned script following “two strangers who survive a plane crash in the Colorado woods and are forced to rely on one another for survival, eventually falling in love.” Shooting will kick off at year’s end.

Finally, THR have learned Christopher Lambert is the latest addition to Joel and Ethan Coen‘s Hail, Caesar! The first report informs us he’s to play “Arne Slessum, a married European filmmaker whose

scandalous affair with a young starlet (Scarlett Johansson) becomes yet another headache for the studio.” Seeing as the picture follows Eddie Mannix (George Clooney), a fixer who clears up any less-than-flattering material related to Hollywood stars (or at least stars circa the film’s ’50s setting), connections between that thread and the larger narrative aren’t so hard to figure out. It’s just nice to have the Highlander in a Coen brothers film.

Hail, Caesar! is currently in production and will arrive on February 5, 2016.

Which of these casting notices do you find most encouraging? Are you especially anticipating any of these films?
