Since releasing Zero Dark Thirty over two years, Kathryn Bigelow has circled a number of films, but now it looks like she’s finally settled on one. After being rumored for it since last year, Deadline reports that she’s dropped the long-gestating Triple Frontier to now focus on the Mark Boal-scripted Bowe Bergdahl drama. Backed by Annapurna Pictures once again, it follows his capture by the Taliban and five-year imprisonment before be released in May of last year. While no studio has confirmed it has picked up the project yet, we imagine news will follow shortly.

In other directing news, word has yet to arrive if Colin Trevorrow will helm a sequel to Jurassic World, but in case it doesn’t go through or Universal wants another director, he has a back-up project. THR reports he’ll reteam with Steven Spielberg, who’ll produce Intelligent Life, a new sci-fi thriller Trevorrow scripted with frequent collaborator Derek Connolly. While specific plot details have yet be unearthed, it’s said to be an iteration of The Ambassador, a film the duo were set to make after Safety Not Guaranteed on a much smaller budget. Check out the synopsis below.

The film is set in the United Nations Office of Outer Space Affairs, which not only monitors the universe for signs of life but is prepared to represent humanity if and when aliens arrive on earth. A shy, low-ranking staffer unwittingly makes first contact when he meets a mysterious beautiful woman and must risk more than his job when they are threatened by forces of this world and beyond.

Lastly, coming off of his acclaimed Oscar-nominated Wild Tales, director Damián Szifron will step it up in a big way for his next feature. Deadline reports he’s signed on to make his English-language, Hollywood debut with TriStar Pictures. It’s a “mysterious thriller” he’ll write, direct, and produce, but unfortunately the trade provides nothing beyond that. Check back for updates as they arrive.

Which of the above films are you most looking forward to?
