"Enough Said", Premieres at the BFI London Film Festival"Enough Said", Premieres at the BFI London Film Festival

Ranking fairly high on our list of the top 50 films of 2014, Ruben Östlund‘s Force Majeure is a rigorously assured exploration of the responsibility found in marriage. Deeply funny and smartly observed, with performances that rely on acute gestures and movements to convey things some films take an entire runtime to explore, I said I can only imagine an American remake will be in the works soon, so make sure to catch up with it before then.

It looks like my prediction is coming together sooner than expected, as THR has announced that Fox Searchlight has acquired rights to the Swedish drama, which almost made the final cut of the Oscar-nominated foreign films this year. Although no director or writer has come aboard yet (I truly wouldn’t mind if Östlund simply pulled a Ken Scott and did it himself), Julia Louis-Dreyfus is said to be in talks to star and possible produce.

While I’d normally be turned off by a such news of an immediate, unnecessary remake, the attachment of a talent such as Louis-Dreyfus has me greatly intrigued, particularly depending on who gets cast as the male lead. As await more details, check out our interview with Östlund here and our discussion of the film here. If you have yet to see Force Majeure, it’s now streaming on Netflix, so there are no excuses.

Who should star alongside Julia Louis-Dreyfus in the remake?
