After making a big leap from Justin Beiber: Never Say Never to Paramount’s delayed tentpole G.I. Joe: Retaliation, director Jon Chu is looking to line up his next project and, according to The Hollywood Reporter, he may have found it. The trade reports the director has signed on to the Disney YA adaptation of Matched, from Ally Condie‘s book series.

While The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and Hard Candy helmer David Slade was thinking about directing, he has since dropped out, leaving Chu the gig. Many could poke fun at his tween beginnings, but Chu actually shows a knack for kineticism, something that hopefully carries over to his G.I. Joe film and this upcoming project. Adapted by Sherlock Holmes: A Games of Shadows scribes Kieran and Michelle Mulroney, the trilogy (also including Crossed and Reached, the latter just released last fall), follows a sort of proposed marriage system in a dystopian future where a young woman falls for someone she isn’t supposed to be with.

Check out the complete synopsis below via Amazon (where you can also read the first few chapters):

Cassia has always trusted the Society to make the right choices for her: what to read, what to watch, what to believe. So when Xander’s face appears on-screen at her Matching ceremony, Cassia knows with complete certainty that he is her ideal mate . . . until she sees Ky Markham’s face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black.

The Society tells her it’s a glitch, a rare malfunction, and that she should focus on the happy life she’s destined to lead with Xander. But Cassia can’t stop thinking about Ky, and as they slowly fall in love, Cassia begins to doubt the Society’s infallibility and is faced with an impossible choice: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she’s known and a path that no one else has dared to follow.

Are you looking forward to seeing Chu taking on this project?
