Jason Segel and Drew Pearce Adapting Documentary ‘The Other F Word’ for Fox

Written by on October 19, 2012

I’m no fan of turning documentaries into narratives — this is neither the place nor time, etc. — but Jason Segel, being ever so affable, has the potential to make it a different story. According to Deadline, the writer-actor has partnered with producer and co-scribe Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3) to sell Fox their own, hotly-contested version of Andrea Blaugrund Nevins‘ The Other F Word.

The documentary — which we reviewed (and greatly enjoyed) at last year’s SXSW — puts its focus on punk rockers whose stage days are starting to fade in favor of being a parent. Members of Blink-182, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Black Flag, Rancid, and Devo (“Whip It” is punk?) make appearances to tell their stories; now, Segel and Pearce will dramatize that while also adding a few more laughs. (Let’s assume laughs and not, I don’t know, tragedy.)

Much of that story, judging by the quick description, really sort of leaves itself open for a comedic interpretation — you know, it being so ridiculous and whatnot — and that’s something I have full confidence the both of them will be able to deliver. So we’re all well and good on that front, but knowing that The Other F Word also carries some semblance of quality gives yours truly confidence as to this film’s own chances.

Have you seen the original project? Is it a good idea to turn it into a feature?
