James Woods and Others Board ‘Jobs’; ‘Devil’s Knot’ Finds Two More; Sean Astin In ‘Cabin Fever’ Prequel

Written by on June 26, 2012

James Woods is definitely in a lot of bad things — it might be for the best he’s slowed down these past few years — but the guy’s never actually bad; Jobs might continue that trend on both ends. Variety reports that he, John Getz (The Social Network, Zodiac), the previously-pictured Ron Eldard (Super 8), and Lesley Ann Warren (Mission: Impossible) are on board the Ashton Kutcher-starring Steve Jobs biopic.

Woods is set to appear as Jack Dudman, Dean of Students when Jobs attended Reed College; Getz will play his father, Paul; Eldard is expected to portray Rod Holt, a designer for Apple; and Warren is Clara Jobs, his adoptive mother. No matter how big or small some of these parts truly prove to be, they’ve got a strong supporting cast — Josh Gad, Ahna O’Reilly, Matthew Modine, Lukas Haas, and Dermot Mulroney — by their side. Sadly, though, I suspect Jobs is going to be the lower-end version of this man’s life after Aaron Sorkin comes in and does his thing with this same basic story. Right now, it might just not be very good.

Not that we should judge a film exclusively by set photos, but this pair featuring Kutcher on LSD don’t help matters (via Inquisitr):

Next up, Deadline has learned that Brian Howe (Gran Torino, The Pursuit of Happyness) and Robert Baker (Grey’s Anatomy, Lone Ranger) will be appearing in Atom Egoyan‘s Devil’s Knot. The former’s involvement in this West Memphis 3 drama comes by playing McDonough, “a California cop who gets partially drawn into the case while chasing down a lead”; the latter has been locked for the role of Detective Bryan Ridge, who was one of the first to be on the crime scene.

Colin Firth, Reese Witherspoon, Mireille Enos, Alessandro Nivola, Amy Ryan, Dane DeHaan, Kristoffer Polaha, Collette Wolfe, James Hamrick, Bruce Greenwood, Michael Gladis, and Matt Letscher all star in Devil’s Knot, which will start shooting in a few weeks.

The last film at hand may never make its way to theaters. In this case, we’re referring to Cabin Fever: Patient Zero, a feature we’ve previously heard is a prequel, but one THR describes as a reboot of the original Eli Roth gore-fest — and, in some ways, the much-maligned sequel by Ti West. Variety says Sean Astin, Ben Hollingsworth, and Brando Eaton (Dexter) will star for director Kaare Andrews (Altitude, The ABCs of Death), with the storyline following “a bachelor party cruise in the Caribbean” that finds a medical research island that contains a lethal virus. (If this is actually a prequel, expect one of the flesh-eating sort.)

It, again, probably won’t have a theatrical release and is also unlikely to be a truly good film, but it’s still a little interesting to see this series getting a retool; the first hit ten years ago, and only one sequel followed its lede. (I figure it would need at least three follow-ups to be worthy of this treatment.) Indomina are already planning a follow-up to Patient Zero, entitled Cabin Fever: Outbreak, so it’s clear they want to make Cabin Fever a viable franchise again. Best of luck?

Do Jobs or Devil’s Knot become any more appealing with this next wave of casting? Are you up for a Cabin Fever reboot?
