Deep Impact/Armageddon, The Illusionist/The Prestige, Antz/A Bug’s Life, Saving Private Ryan/The Thin Red Line, Mirror Mirror/SWATH and, most recently, The Girl/Hitchcock — time and time again Hollywood offers up two competing projects with the hopes that one will come out on top. 2013 is no different, as not one, but two major action thrillers featuring the White House being taken over by an evil force will be arriving.
We recently got the first official stills (one above) of Sony’s Roland Emmerich-directed White House Down, which brings together Channing Tatum, Jamie Foxx and Maggie Gyllenhaal, but now FilmDistrict has released the first poster for the competitor. Training Day helmer Antoine Fuqua directs Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, Morgan Freeman and more in the film which follows our lead as a Secret Service who comes back to duty to when his former workplace is invaded by terrorists.
Until we get trailers, it’s impossible to make an educated guess on what each will bring, but one could expect Emmerich to likely bring more action spectacle and I’m hoping for a bit more drama when it comes to Fuqua’s take. His spring-set thriller also stars Angela Bassett, Robert Forster, Cole Hauser, Ashley Judd, Melissa Leo, Dylan McDermott, Radha Mitchell and Rick Yune. Check out the first poster below and let us know what you are more looking forward to in the comments.
Olympus Has Fallen arrives on April 5th, while White House Down hits theaters on June 28th.
