[First Look] Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson In Walt Disney Film ‘Saving Mr. Banks’

Written by on November 6, 2012

Because a film centered on Walt Disney is less likely to maintain security than, say, a Marvel movie, which is why we suddenly have our first peeks at the two stars of Saving Mr. Banks. Thanks to InsideTheMagic and /Film, a few shots of Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson wearing their costumes as Walt Disney and Mary Poppins author P.L. Travers, respectively.

It’s basically what you’d expect: The two resemble their real-life counterparts (here’s a shot of the actual writer), but that much really tells us nothing about their true performance. If anything gives some sort of new insight past “look at that,” it’s a shot of the Disneyland recreation, something which gives a bit of insight into what director John Lee Hancock has done to recreate the golden glow of its late ’50s setting — not a lot to chew on, either, though more than what else is available. In that other sense, I’ll sit by and wait for the scenes of Hanks and Thompson squabbling over the rights to a book.

Update: Photos removed at the request of the producers.

With a cast that also includes B.J. NovakColin FarrellBradley WhitfordPaul Giamatti, and Ruth Wilson, Saving Mr. Banks will open on December 20th, 2013.

Any impressions from these new shots?
