Bevy of Details on ‘Cloudy 2: Revenge of the Leftovers’ and First Logo

Written by on August 21, 2012

I wouldn’t think so many pre-release details could even exist for Cloudy 2: Revenge of the Leftovers — it seems like a fairly straightforward venture from a storytelling standpoint, really — but here we have EW to defy expectations. They went behind-the-scenes of Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn‘s follow-up to the 2009 hit, using that opportunity to learn how, exactly, you make a sequel to that movie about food destroying a town. (Hint: more food.)

We had been told this sequel followed the original protagonist, Flint Lockwood (Bill Hader), who teams with his friends (Anna Faris and Andy Samberg) as they’re “forced to leave their town of Swallow Falls, but must return when sentient food beasts have overrun the island.” Their update confirms as much, with the original movie’s food (it’s not often you get to type this) “taking on the form of various voracious living beasts such as watermelephants, tacodiles, shrimpanzees, and apple pie-thons.”

Coming aboard are Will Forte, who’s left behind his original role and taken up Chester V, head of Live Corp Company — “Apple meets Google, meets every sort of advanced company” — and controller of Barb, a Kristen Schaal-voiced orangutan with a human brain. Live Corp have a machine which is still producing food, but, with it coming to life, we now have things like a “giant, french-fry-legged bacon cheesespider, which lords over the abandon town like a massive cholesterol-spiking tarantula.” I can only presume they’re evil.

While most of the original cast — James Caan, Andy Samberg, and Benjamin Bratt being mentioned — will come back, Mr. T is no longer on board as the tough cop, Earl. But Terry Crews is taking over, so it should be just fine.

For a little bonus, here’s the first logo:

Cloudy 2: Revenge of the Leftovers will open on February 7th, 2014.
