Despite not living up to the Matt Damon trilogy, Universal are keen on getting a follow-up to the Jeremy Renner-led The Bourne Legacy moving as fast as possible. We got word this past summer that Anthony Peckham (Sherlock Holmes, Invictus) is in charge of writing the script and while rumors were shot down regarding a potential return to the franchise for Damon and Paul Greengrass, we now know who will be helming.

According to Deadline, the studio is bringing on board one of their biggest franchise rejuvenators and moneymakers, Justin Lin. Responsible for kicking new life into the Fast and the Furious franchise with Fast Five and the latest entry (while also giving us the two prior), he’s now been set to direct a sequel to The Bourne Legacy.

With Renner returning as Aaron Cross, there’s no word yet on what the storyline but entail, but Lin has strong action chops, so he should prove to be a worthy helmer for this job. Production is looking to kick off next year for a summer 2015 release, so check back for more details as they arrive; my only bid is that The Rock goes toe-to-toe with our lead.

Is Justin Lin a strong choice to take over this franchise?
