Evan Rachel Wood Takes Lead In ‘10 Things I Hate About Life’

Written by on November 14, 2012

10 Things I Hate About Life has officially left Hayley Atwell, only to gain Evan Rachel Wood in the process. As far as trade-offs go, that’s not half-bad.

It’s actually an all-around great development for the film, a “spiritual sequel” to director Gil Junger‘s late-90s classic of romantic angst which “advances” its ideas and goes in a dark direction. As previous reports have indicated, Life focuses on two people who are on the brink of suicide but, upon meeting one another, decide to both reevaluate and try to improve things. From that point forward — unless this is actually very, very dark, darker than the logline would suggest — romance blossoms and their situations become brighter as a result.

I’m still unsure about the set-up, but, with Wood now in a major role, there’s at least a decent reason to retract prior (negative) comments regarding 10 Things I Hate About Life. While thoughts about the film are, yes, still relatively mild, this is something whose ultimate quality greatly depends on the chemistry of its two leads; with one part looking pretty secure, a good person for the actress to play off would make a huge difference. I’d be glad for them to make it work in the coming weeks.

If there was any personal outlook on 10 Things I Hate About Life, does it change with the presence of Evan Rachel Wood?
