After crafting the dark, striking debut Snowtown, Australia’s Justin Kurzel has stepped up his scope in a major way for his follow-up, securing a top cast for an adaptation of William Shakespeare‘s Macbeth. We already know Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard are locked into the lead roles, but now with production beginning today, we have news on the rest of the cast.

According to a press release, Paddy Considine (The World’s End, Tyrannosaur), David Thewlis (Naked, Harry Potter), Sean Harris (Prometheus), Jack Reynor (What Richard Did, Transformers 4) and Elizabeth Debicki (The Great Gatsby), have all joined the ensemble. On the technical side, Adam Arkapaw (Animal Kingdom, Snowtown) will shoot the film, coming from a script by Jacob Koskoff and Todd Louiso.

The official synopsis has also been unveiled, stating, it’s “the story of a fearless warrior and inspiring leader brought low by ambition and desire. A thrilling interpretation of the dramatic realities of the times and a truthful reimagining of what wartime must have really been like for one of Shakespeare’s most famous and compelling characters, a story of all-consuming passion and ambition set in war torn 11th Century Scotland.”

Production will continue for the next seven weeks in Scotland and England for a likely 2015 release by The Weinstein Company.
