Edgar Wright Next Sets Sights on ‘Baby Driver’

Although the sting of whatever actually happened behind the scenes of Ant-Man is not yet healed, we’re fortunate enough to have Edgar Wright moving forward. Early though this may seem, Deadline tell us he’ll next helm Baby Driver, a long-gestating, now-fast-tracked project which, all the way back in 2008, was only described as “a wild spin on the action and crime genre which will be set in the US.” (The outlet add to that six-year-old summation with “a collision of crime, action, music and sound.” Incidentally, this would make a great title for someone’s essay on Hot Fuzz.)

That’s as far as it goes, I’m afraid, but nevertheless: the news of a new Wright picture is always more than welcome, especially when the man is coming off his most mature and dramatically accomplished work to date. Now, admittedly, I don’t know how “mature” or “dramatic” something called Baby Driver might prove, but there is always room for surprises. By now, the only real shock would be it not turning out great.

Working Title Films have the rights, which indicates another distribution deal through Universal or Focus Features.

Are you glad to hear Wright is back at work, even if details are scant?
