Possibly, states ComingSoon. Apparently the director approached Walt Disney‘s head of production, Sean Bailey, to direct an adaptation of Jules Verne’s 2,000 Leagues Under the Sea. The movie will be potential written by Scott J. Burns (The Informant!) and will “aim to be visually dazzling” and as well as “being in the vein of Star Wars or The Empire Strikes Back.”

At first there was going to be a follow up to the classic film 1954 involving the origin of Captain Nemo being directed by McG with a budget of $150 Million. As soon as Richard Ross took over as Disney chairman last year, however, it was dropped with assurance that a ‘2000 Leagues’ movie is not dead.

The question is, is David Fincher a good fit for this movie. He has never made a movie with the outline of it being family oriented. Will there be a chance for him to add his own dark twists to it? Will it be more character oriented? Only time will tell.

Do you think Fincher is a good choice for ‘2000 Leagues’?
