The seven-month-old casting rumor that was never followed-up didn’t exactly pan out. Well, what do you know?

But although it (probably) would’ve been fascinating to see Chiwetel Ejiofor‘s antagonist go toe-to-toe with Daniel Craig‘s James Bond, news would have us believe the weeks-away shooting of Bond 24 will see the franchise add a different great actor to its ranks. The usually-keyed-into-Bond Baz Bamigboye tweeted that Christoph Waltz is now part of the cast, presumably — if only because it’s so damn obvious that to not assume is to be a fool — into the villain’s shoes.

As is now customary, the commencement of production in early December will either be immediately preceded or quickly followed by a press conference officially announcing the cast, a rough outline of their roles, and just what the thing will be called. (Anyone think they’ll go with Come and Dive solely for the sake of some good laughs?) Only then should we have any clear idea as to how Waltz’s role, if he’s ultimately involved, figures into the film’s plot. Sit tight until then.

Even without the strong-but-safe choice, things are looking good: Léa Seydoux has nabbed some sort of “femme fatale” role, Dave Bautista will fill in the long line of evil-henchman shoes, and Hoyte Van Hoytema (Interstellar, Her, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) will serve as cinematographer for Sam Mendes, who can make one of the better Bond films while not knowing how to get around without the assistance of his DP.

Bond 24 will the U.S. on November 6, 2015, following a U.K. opening on November 23 of that same year.

What do you think of Waltz as a Bond villain? Does the choice strike you as particularly inspired?
