‘Child’s Pose,’ David Gordon Green, Jafar Panahi & More Take Top Prizes at Berlin Film Festival

Written by on February 16, 2013

With Sundance Film Festival 2013 wrapped up, the next major event in cinema (aside from the latest Nicholas Sparks adaptation hitting theaters) concluded with the Berlin Film Festival. Showcasing the latest films from Wong Kar-wai, Steven Soderbergh, Jafar Panahi and more, the festival handed out its top prizes today. One of the biggest feats was the welcome return of David Gordon Green to independent filmmaking terrority.

We were fans of his Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch-led Prince Avalanche at Sundance (full review), but the jury at Berlin (led by The Grandmaster director) found a lot to like, handing him the Silver Bear for Best Director. The major win, however, came for Călin Peter Netzer and his Romanian drama Child’s Pose, which took home the Golden Bear. Could we have the next A Separation on our hands? Let’s hope, and one can check out two teasers from the film below, along with the full winner list, also including a Best Script award for Jafar Panahi and his Closed Curtain.
