Black & Chrome Edition of ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ Gets Theatrical Premiere Ahead of Blu-ray Release

Written by Joseph Falcone on October 4, 2016

Update: The Black & Chrome edition is now available to stream, but it’ll also hit select theater on Friday, November 4, playing in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, and more. See here if it’s playing near you and see the original story below.

Do you wish to ride eternal shiny and chrome? Well, here’s your chance. George Miller’s dynamic blockbuster Mad Max: Fury Road is finally getting its long-rumored black-and-white edition, swaddled inside a swanky new quadrilogy bundle (or available as a two-film collection). However, if you’re a lucky Los Angeles resident, you’ll be able to see it on the big screen.

The monochrome edition, which Miller himself has deemed “the best version” of Fury Road, will have its theatrical premiere at SpectreFest 2016 in Los Angeles on Monday 11/1 at 7:30pm. Taking place at The Cinefamily, tickets have already gone on sale, and we assume they’ll go quite fast.

For those outside of the Los Angeles area, the set is slated for a December 6th release from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, befittingly titled the High-Octane Collection. It will feature all four Mad Max films (including Mad Max, Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior, and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome), hours of bonus content, and the aforementioned black-and-white edition of Fury Road entitled Mad Max: Fury Road Black & Chrome Edition.

Miller wasn’t exactly coy when it came to discussing his desire for an achromatic version of his critically and commercially beloved masterpiece. If it were up to him, we would’ve only got a black and white edition. However, despite wanting a colorless cut included on the film’s original DVD release, Miller was forced to wait to share his essential cut with his fans. A little over a year later, Miller’s ideal vision for Mad Max: Fury Road is about to grace screens all over Valhalla and it’s going to be a lovely day indeed.

Update: See footage from the Black & Chrome edition and watch Miller discuss it below.
