After his latest film, Black Swan, garnered acclaim from the various critics who saw it at festivals such as Venice and Toronto, Darren Aronofsky has been offered many projects. The movie he seemed to be the most likely to direct next was Wolverine 2, starring his lead in The Fountain, Hugh Jackman. But now it seems as though he’ll be taking on something else, an adaptation of the non-fiction book The Tiger, written by John Vaillant. What’s even more interesting is that it may star real life couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, the first film they will have starred in since Mr. & Mrs. Smith in 2005.
As we first reported back in May, the plot is described as being about a game warden that has to protect a Siberian town being terrorized by a tiger that has escaped. Guillermo Arriaga, who is adapting the book for a screenplay, said in an interview with Quien (via FirstShowing) that he’s been visiting Aronofsky in New York and will begin scouting locations in Siberia very soon. It seems like this, and not the previously rumored Wolverine 2, will be the next project for the director, and that is something to be thankful for.
What do you think of this project, and would you rather see Aronofsky direct this than Wolverine 2?
