Alicia Vikander Leaks Into Julian Assange Film with Benedict Cumberbatch and Daniel Bruhl

Written by on December 14, 2012

How funny (or not) that Alicia Vikander would go from some period pieces to a project whose modern setting is, maybe, the most crucial element. Variety report that the Anna Karenina and Royal Affair actress has entered negotiations about the untitled WikiLeaks project starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Daniel Brühl, and possibly Laura Linney, with Bill Condon, fresh off Breaking Dawn, behind the camera. Not just a change in pace, but also a pretty big point of exposure.

Thanks to Josh Singer‘s screenplay, Vikander would be seen as the co-worker and lover of Daniel Domcheit-Berg; he was the assistant to WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, with whom his relationship was essential to the site’s formation and strength. Somewhat unfortunately for the actress, the bond between that man and his girlfriend probably didn’t have the same sort of impact, in real life or onscreen. Condon‘s actually directing a love-fest between Cumberbatch‘s Assange and Brühl‘s Domcheit-Berg.

But, who knows — Vikander could have a big part on her hands. (This wouldn’t really surprise me, given how early-on her signing would happen to be.) No matter what, though, just the level of attention bound to envelop this WikiLeaks project is sure to make a splash, so being in this circle is a huge benefit.

Anonymous Content are producing the film, which is expected to start shooting sometime in 2013.

Is Vikander a wise choice to go with Cumberbatch and Brühl?
