Actors Check ‘Baggage’ to Make ‘Non-Stop’ Flight

Written by on October 18, 2012

Rarely do two films allow us to crack one continuous aviation-related pun in a headline. Please allow just that single instance.

Anyway, news in Variety informs us that Liam Neeson and Julianne Moore are getting a few co-stars on the Jaume Collet-Serra-directed Non-Stop, a film that’s preparing to launch production next month. The lucky new cast members, by the way, are Corey Stoll (Midnight in Paris‘ own Ernest Hemingway), Hell on Wheels star Anson Mount, Linus Roache (Bruce Wayne’s father in Batman Begins), Lupita Nyong’o (Twelve Years a Slave), and Jason Butler Harner (Kill the Irishman, Alcatraz).

They’re also joining Nate Parker, Scott McNairy, and Michelle Dockery for a film in which Neeson, playing an Air Marshall, is tormented by a man claiming he’ll murder one passenger on their flight for every twenty minutes he doesn’t kill himself. Seeing as the antagonist has almost certainly been cast by now (my money’s on McNairy), Non-Stop‘s supporting players might be relegated to sitting on an airplane set and looking confused as the lead gets into an argument with a flight attendant. Even if that’s the extent of it, this team should be able to make something out of so little.

Next up, Variety reports that Alani Vazquez Anthony (also known as “La La,” it would seem) will appear in Baggage Claim, a romantic comedy for which Fox Searchlight has already secured Paula Patton, Derek Luke, and Adam Brody. David E. Talbert (First Sunday) is behind the proceedings, with the Ghotocol actress slated to play a flight attendant who tries to find a companion as her sister’s looming wedding adds some pressure on the old biological clock. Coming in is Anthony, who will play her “energetic co-worker and accomplice.”

Baggage Claim is expected to begin filming soon.

How do these films improve or hurt themselves with this round of additions?
