Audiences will get a lot more of Lily Collins next year when she leads Tarsem‘s Snow White movie, but those of us averse to the Indian filmmaker’s music video sensibilities will probably judge her by another performance. According to Deadline, the actress has landed a role in The English Teacher, putting her alongside Julianne Moore, Greg Kinnear, Nathan Lane, and Michael Angarano.

The independent comedy, directed by Craig Zisk and written by Dan & Stacy Chariton, follows “a high school English teacher [Moore] whose life is upended when a former star pupil returns to her small town after failing miserably as a playwright in New York.” Upon his reappearance, she “convinces him to mount his unproduced play at the school, which creates more drama than she’s ever known.”

Collins has the role of “a popular high schooler who comes into conflict with the teacher”; expect her to learn a lesson through interactions with the teacher. Okay — even if we can more or less predict the character’s arc, I’m still looking forward to seeing Moore in another leading, dramatic part. She needs more of those.

Production on the film will begin this week in New York City, making a release of late 2012 possible.

For further casting, Variety reports that Katheryn Winnick will have a role in Roman Coppola‘s A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charlie Swan III. The Charlie Sheen-starring drama centers on “a successful graphic designer” who “swirls into a downward spiral of doubt, confusion and reflection” after his girlfriend leaves him; it looks like Winnick will be playing said girlfriend, since Variety credits her as “the female lead.” She’s joining a cast that includes Jason Schwartzman and Aubrey Plaza.

This is probably the biggest role yet for the Bones actress, as most of her parts have been minor, including quick turns in Love and Other Drugs and Killers. An interesting, solid group of talent; I’m getting increasingly excited here. The film is currently shooting, and it should also open in late 2012.

Have you seen Collins in anything, and did you like her in it? Are you interested in The English Teacher? What are your thoughts on Charlie Swan and Winnick’s casting?
