Garret Dillahunt is one of the better character actors around today, and even if the name doesn’t pop out at you, there’s a decent chance you’ve seen his work in the past. Roles in projects like No Country for Old Men, The Assassination of Jesse James, The Road and Winter’s Bone all make impressions on the viewer, and he’s one of those guys that you wish had a bigger career.
And while this isn’t likely to change things up too much for him in terms of fame, we’ve heard that he’ll be appearing in two high-profile movies coming out relatively soon. In an interview with The AV Club (via ThePlaylist), the actor gave some brief details on these exciting projects.
He was quoted as saying that his past experience working with Dominik and Pitt on Jesse James was a good one, and he’s going to experience that again, even if briefly. His quote is as follows:
“Today, I’m driving from Thibodaux to New Orleans to do a little cameo in Cogan’s Trade with Brad and Andrew again, just because I’m close by. So I’m looking forward to seeing them.”
What that role entails isn’t clear, but considering that he himself referred to it as a “little cameo,” I don’t think it’ll be very substantial. There, he’s appearing alongside Casey Affleck, James Gandolfini, Javier Bardem, Sam Rockwell, Scoot McNairy, Ben Mendelsohn, Richard Jenkins, Ray Liotta, and Sam Shepherd.
His reason for being in New Orleans leads to another interesting piece of casting news, as he said that it was for Rian Johnson‘s Looper. He said the following on the movie:
“I’m shooting a film called Looper up in Thibodaux. Cool, cool project. I’ve been here a week or so. It’s Bruce Willis and Emily Blunt and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who are all actors I really like very much. It’s a sort of science-fiction tale with a lot of time travel and murder, and it’s really cool and tense and fun. I’m really happy to be a part of it.”
He’ll also be appearing alongside Paul Dano, Jeff Daniels and Piper Perabo.
Interestingly enough, The Playlist suggests that he’ll be playing the role of “Jesse,” who’s the antagonist that appears in the film’s third act. Personally, I think that’s really cool. And I’m not only excited that he’ll be showing up in both, but both are movies that I’m really looking forward to, so this is really a great piece of news. Yes, this won’t take him to the level of a superstar, but I expect him to do his typical thing: play his part, and play it as well as you could ask for. Both are projects to look out for, so be sure to stick around here for more updates on them as they come in.
Are you looking forward to either movie, and are you excited he’s appearing in them?
