In keeping with the impressive ensemble of 2012’s Lawless, Deadline report that John Hillcoat‘s next outing, Triple Nine, has just added a venerable set to an already outstanding group: joining Casey Affleck, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Michael B. Jordan are Kate Winslet, Aaron Paul, Michael Peña, Teresa Palmer (Warm Bodies), and the future Wonder Woman herself, Gal Gadot.

With a screenplay by Matt Cook, the picture follows a rookie cop (Jordan) set up by his fellow officers for a 999, or “Officer Down,” planned with the intent of completing a difficult heist orchestrated by Russian mobsters — all leading to, in Deadline’s words, “a breakneck, action-packed finale filled with double-crosses, greed and revenge.” Hillcoat‘s assembling quite the ensemble to make this narrative click; here’s hoping he and the screenplay can do them proper justice.

Open Road are distributing Triple Nine, while Anonymous Content, Sierra/Infinity, and Worldview will provide producing and financing support.

Meanwhile, at TheWrap, word has it that Alejandro Amenábar (The Others, Open Your Eyes, The Sea Inside) is setting Emma Watson and Ethan Hawke for Regression, a 2015-bound, Weinstein Company-backed thriller that we only know as… a 2015-bound, Weinstein Company-backed thriller, save for the months-old note that this is to be an “elevated genre piece.” Regardless, no more than the matching of these two stars and this writer-director counts for a good deal; that’s it’s only a year away (give or take) sweetens the deal.

Finally, the too-good-to-be-true Ant-Man is somehow improving with each step along the way to production, the latest update informing us that Evangeline Lilly (The Hobbit, Lost) has entered early talks over Edgar Wright‘s Marvel picture. With a typically secretive atmosphere surrounding this endeavor and the first stages of negotiations only now underway, it’s no surprise that specifics (or even generalities) of her part should go unstated — yet it’s still news those of us in the helmer’s camp (and that would include many here) are both elated to hear and left hoping will come to fruition. Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, and Michael Peña have been confirmed for the film, which opens on July 17, 2015.

Which of these projects are you most anticipating? Do the casting notices elevate their prospects?
