Things looked just a bit shaky when Tom Hiddleston took the reins for Michael Fassbender — in part, for me, because we hadn’t heard anything since late-January story — so I can, for lack of a better term, only take this as good news for Only Lovers Left Alive. In a new update, it’s reported that Anton Yelchin is next to sign for the Jim Jarmusch-helmed vampire love story, which also features John Hurt, Tilda Swinton, and Mia Wasikowska. [Deadline]

Much as I’d love to tell you what Jarmusch is up to with his next film… well, I can’t, other than repeat the vague description of “an unusual love story between two vampires who have been in love for centuries.” Who needs more, though? With this filmmaker directing this impressive a collection in what’s, more likely than not, a pretty out-there tale, most of us are already ready to see what comes forth. Sadly, we’ll need to wait until 2013.

Deadline has two more casting items, both of which fall on Atom Egoyan‘s West Memphis 3 drama Devil’s Knot. Colin Firth, Reese Witherspoon, and Mireille Enos have either signed or are in talks, while the past day has brought both Kristopher Higgins (Secret Life of the American Teenager) and Alessandro Nivola (Junebug, Coco Before Chanel) into the fray. (And in some crucial spots, too.)

Higgins is the first to be cast as one of the three teenagers accused of murder; in this case, Jessie Misskelley. On the other side of that coin is Nivola, from whom we can expect a performance as Terry Hobbs — one of the victims’ stepfather and, over the past few years, a main suspect in the case. It goes without saying that, in handling this role, Devil’s Knot has some big responsibilities on its shoulder.

Do you see Yelchin fitting into that cast? Do these sound like big roles for Devil’s Knot?
