He is one of the most infamous producers in Hollywood. He single-handedly changes the fate of films (most recently with his Blue Valentine MPAA appeal), turns the Oscar tides (see: The King’s Speech and Shakespeare in Love) to overcome previous frontrunners, all while cloaked in a particular veil of secrecy. Documentarian Barry Avrich has attempted to chronicle the man in his upcoming film Unauthorized: The Harvey Weinstein Project. We have the first trailer and it doesn’t seem particular promising.

Sloppily put together, the big selling point looks like Weinstein had no control over it. Wouldn’t you rather want to make the film itself seem enticing? indieWIRE got to check out the film at a festival earlier this year and counted down some of the obvious things and interesting tidbits included. As a fellow alum of University at Buffalo, I’m interested to hear more about his beginnings, but as for the rest, it doesn’t look like any big reveals. Check out the trailer below.

Unauthorized: The Harvey Weinstein Project hits VOD on October 7th, 2011.
