After successfully leading a riff on Glee this fall with Pitch Perfect, Bridesmaids star Rebel Wilson will team up with the star of the Fox show for a much smaller project. Premiering at Tribeca Film Festival this past spring, we’ve got a new trailer for the Chris Colfer-led independent drama Struck By Lightning.

This theatrical look has much more life to it than our previous teaser earlier this year, but aside from a Colfer getting a worthy chance lead a drama, there isn’t too much that grabs me here. It’s hitting VOD first so perhaps it is worth a view, if only for the strong supporting cast, also including Allison Janney, Dermot Mulroney, Christina Hendricks and Sarah Hyland. Check out the trailer below.

Synopsis:

Directed by Brian Dannelly (SAVED!), high school senior Carson Phillips (Chris Colfer,”Glee”) was destined for bigger things than his close-minded small town could ever offer. He was on a path to greatness, but destiny had a different plan when he was suddenly killed by a bolt of lightning in his school parking lot. Carson recounts the last few weeks of his life via witty, insightful flashbacks, including a blackmail scheme targeting the popular kids in school that he concocts with his best friend (Rebel Wilson, BRIDESMAIDS), and a home life that includes a mother (Allison Janney, JUNO, “The West Wing”) who’s more interested in the bottle than her son’s future and an estranged father (Dermot Mulroney, MY BEST FRIEND’S WEDDING) who suddenly appears with a pregnant fiancée (Christina Hendricks, “Mad Men”). The film also features Sarah Hyland (“Modern Family”), Angela Kinsey (“The Office”), Polly Bergen (“Desperate Housewives”), and Ashley Rickards (“One Tree Hill”, “American Horror Story”).

Struck By Lightning arrives on VOD on December 19th and hits theaters on January 11th.
